Character Information
Character Name: Lancir ve Aurelles (prefers to go by Lance)
Canon: Original
Canon Point: Shortly after learning about Jai’s demigod collection and his plans to kill Cosmos
Is your character Dead, Undead or Alive: Alive

History:
Lance is the son of an elven princess and the god of Chaos. At the tender age of five, his mother is murdered and he is kidnapped by a creature named Jai. Shortly afterward Jai hands Lance off to his partner, Nathaniel, so that Nathaniel can look after the newly kidnapped chaos-baby in the Valley of Bones. A nation no god can set foot on; conveniently preventing Lance’s father from getting him back. Nathaniel is a terrible, terrible person. He’s cruel, sadistic, and really should not be allowed near children. The lines between neglect, abuse, and torture are questionable. Lance spends nine years with Nathaniel, who he later finds out is his half-brother (also one of Chaos’ sons).

At about 8 years old, Nathaniel teaches Lance necromancy, partially out of boredom and with the intention to use him to raise an army. When Lance is about 14 years old, Nathaniel boots him out with the demand that Lance go and find a way to eliminate the elven capital with the threat of, should Lance choose not to, Nathaniel will make it so that Lance never sees the light of day again (Nathaniel has some really big issues with elves). Having been left on his own for the first time in his rather short life, Lance uses the opportunity to do the exact opposite of what Nathaniel told him to do and goes to explore some of the nearby towns. Nathaniel eventually catches up to him, “helps” him massacre four small villages, and forces him to reanimate the corpses.

Three years pass and fifteen cities fall. There are no survivors and no bodies to be found. Rumors run rampant of empty cities, some kind of creature people have started calling the Deathwalker, and of his army of dead things.

Then, one lovely morning, Illuri, the capital of the elven nation wakes up to a vast army of corpses on its doorstep, led by the Deathwalker himself. The Deathwalker is disappointingly short.
During the attack the Deathwalker is incapacitated. The elven general uses this as an opportunity to grab him and get him to drop his army. When they do get a hold of him they find out that he’s just a skinny little half-elf kid who happens to be their long lost prince. They’re not exactly thrilled to see him, he’s not happy to see them, and much arguing over what to do with him ensues.
So, after languishing in a cell for about a week and currently scheduled to be hanged for crimes against his country, Lance’s cousin comes to him with an offer. If he agrees to “kidnap” her and escort her around so she can see other countries, she’ll let him out of his cell and give him back his silver. Lance agrees….and then ditches her after three months.

Lance spends about three years on the run with the new charge of kidnapping a princess added on to the list. During one run in with the elven royal guard Lance decides that getting shot at and chased really isn’t what he wants to do at the moment and rips a hole in the world with his chaos magic. Instead of coming out in another city he ends up in a completely different world and meets Elisabet in the process. Lance grudgingly decides to follow Elisabet after she points out that she’s the only person within a five mile radius that knows where they are and happens to be willing to tolerate his less than stellar people skills. After experiencing a good portion of Elisabet’s world and its issues (one of them being Elisabet’s former friend, Bianca) the two get snagged by Armaris for a chat; or, as Lance knows him, the god of Cosmos.

Turns out all the world is a game run by gods and the world Elisabet is from was made by Chaos as a way to spite Cosmos. Her world is dying and Cosmos doesn’t care. He’s of the opinion that everything, specifically his things, will be better off when it’s gone. To do this, Elisabet needs to stop existing. She’s Chaos’ piece in the game as well as a stolen soul Cosmos needed to get back. Since the gods can’t interact directly with mortals (doesn’t stop ‘em though) Cosmos sent his piece to go get her and that piece happens to be Lance. Would have been nice if he’d known this sooner but hey, the gods are dicks.
Elisabet gets angry, says some rather colorful things about Armaris, and the two are promptly booted out of the Celestial Plain into Lance’s world (all the better to keep Elisabet somewhere where Cosmos can keep an eye on her). Elisabet decides that the gods’ game is more than a little stupid and that someone should tear it down. Who better to do this than Elisabet herself. She asks Lance to help her and he agrees mostly out the desire to get himself out of being Cosmos’ piece.
They bee-bop their way through the world figuring out some more things, meeting new people, pissing off new people, eventually acquire Lance’s cousin into their weird party as well as another demi god named Lucis, and attempt to fix Elisabet’s world by getting in touch with Chaos.
They find out that Jai is working towards killing Cosmos and has been grabbing demi gods to help him do this, hence his interest in Lance. Lance isn’t having it and tells Jai to go jump off a cliff. Jai smiles like a creeper and leaves. Everybody gets the feeling that they’ll be seeing him again.

Personality:
Lance’s life is a long string of really terrible and sucky things so, he’s rather pessimistic and has next to no faith in the goodness of others. He expects people do say one thing and do the other. As such he’s developed a sort of “me against the world” mentality. His survival and freedom to make his own choices is the most important thing to him. It’s the driving force behind the majority of the things he does and he goes to great lengths to keep things under control. On the other hand, his horrible life experiences have made him really good at making the best of bad situations and adapting to unexpected things on the fly. Doesn’t mean he won’t grumble a bit about it though.

At first glance Lance isn’t particularly friendly looking and he works to maintain this. He’s perfected the art of glowering at people and saying just enough to get his intent across with the minimum amount of words used. He’s skittish and holds himself as if he could run away at the slightest hint of a threat. Lance watches body language more than paying attention to words and is good at reading tells. His life has depended on it in the past. He’s got all the social skills of an emotionally stunted cactus.

He does listen though and he’s good at it. Information is a valuable commodity and he likes knowing things, especially if he can use them. He’s more likely to ask questions rather than answer them and, as a result, he knows quite a bit about a lot of things. Ask the right questions when he’s in the right mood and he may not shut up. He can be very informative if he wants to or, if it looks like he’s going to get something out of sharing.

Lance is probably one of the most paranoid and angry people anyone could ever have the misfortune of running in to. It’s a subtle kind of paranoia that manifests more in actions than in words. He does not trust anyone. At least not at first. He runs on the belief that everyone in the world will somehow stab him in the back someday and so, it’s up to him to prevent this from happening to the best of his ability. He’s viciously efficient at eliminating anything that he perceives as a threat to his wellbeing and will go to extreme lengths to do so. There is almost nothing he won’t do to keep himself alive and, the few things that he won’t do will probably get tossed to the wind if he gets backed into a corner he can’t squeeze his way out of.

That said, he’s learned to deal with people and has started learning that having at least one person to trust is really important. He’s not good at trusting people but he gives a bit more leeway than he used to. He is, at the very least, civil and marginally respectful of others with an underlying cynical sarcasm. Lance is a weasel through and through though, and occasionally does things that aren’t particularly considerate but benefit him.

Lance isn’t entirely horrible though. He is ridiculously loyal to the people he cares about. He’ll go to the ends of the earth and back if he felt that a friend needed it. The few people who have managed to worm their way into his heart are very precious to him and he does his best to make sure they don’t end up dead; as so many people have done before.

Lance is completely and utterly desensitized when it comes to death. He’s been dealing with dead bodies since he was about 8 years old. Bodies aren’t people to him, they’re tools. The thing that made them a person, their soul, isn’t there anymore. This doesn’t mean he has a disregard for the living though. Life is important to him and he values it. He’s just rather apathetic about the lives of others unless their actions affect him directly.

Long story short, Lance is an emotionally stunted mess who’s slowly discovering the power of friendship.

Items on your character at canon point:
He’ll have all of his silver on him in the shape of thick bands all over his clothing. He’s also got Order’s Edge; a shard of Cosmos’s power fashioned into a knife. Given to him by Cosmos himself; it cuts through anything cleanly but only in straight lines. It tends not to listen to Lance and won’t cut more often than not.

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Physically speaking, Lance isn’t all that intimidating. He’s short and thin and if it weren’t for the fact that he’s almost constantly glaring suspiciously at everything, he’d look about as threatening as wet tissue paper.

Lance is a fragile speedster. He’s fast and can hit hard but if he takes a hit he’s probably not going to be doing too well afterward. He’s geared more towards assassination and other sneaky shenanigans. He prefers to direct things far, far away from the front lines and is an experienced tactician. Granted, his experience is in directing corpses so there’s that.

Chaos Magic:
His chaos magic is probably his most powerful ability but also his greatest weakness. Inherited from his father; he doesn’t know how to use it very well and has little to no control over it. It always hurts him, gradually getting worse the more he uses it. He’s never pushed it far enough to do any serious, lasting damage but he’s pretty sure it would kill him before then. Unless all other options have been exhausted; he tries not to use it at all. The side effects of using magic usually include Lance running a fever, becoming physically weak, and in the most severe cases, throwing up blood (it wreaks havoc on his innards).

The things he does know how to do include: ripping holes in the world (for travelling from place to place) and just plain tearing things up (he kind of just lets it do what it wants when he does this).

Silver manipulation:
Lance is almost covered in sliver accessories and baubles. What appears to be a beacon screaming “Oh, please mug me” is really Lance’s primary weapon and marks his place in the elven caste system. He can make silver move anyway he pleases as long as he’s touching it. He usually uses it as some sort of shanking tool or staff but, he also uses it much the same way people would use a Swiss Army knife. He can move any silver though it gets harder if there’s other metals mixed in. He has a tendency to steal any silver he finds; usually in the form of utensils and such. No, he’s not sorry. No, he’s not going to give it back. You’ll have to fight him for it.

Necromancy:
Lance can reanimate dead bodies. He does this by pricking his right pinky or ring finger and squeezing a drop of blood into a wound in whatever body he feels the need to make dance. If necessary, he will cut a hole in said body. He manipulates the small smidgeon of life energy in his own blood that has now mixed in with the blood in the corpse. He can control large groups of corpses with little to no cost to himself; though he’s limited by how fast he can get a body up and moving. Once they’re up they’re a lot like game pieces, they don’t do something till they’re told but, they can also carry out extended commands (such as: do this thing till I tell you to stop). On occasion, Lance will repair bodies that have been severely damaged, usually stitching back on missing limbs or closing large holes. As a result, he’s got an excellent grasp on human anatomy and could, in theory, perform minor surgery on a living person. He doesn’t like doing this as all of his experience is from putting corpses back together (and occasionally himself).
Due to the nature of the Box and how Lance’s necromancy works, it’ll take longer to get a body up and moving and he can only control about five at a time.

Samples

Network/Action Spam Sample:

So apparently this place condones kidnapping on a near cosmic scale. I won’t say that this is anything new to me but it certainly is irritating.

[A slow blink and a dead stare. He is so done with these shenanigans he doesn’t have words.]

That said, does anybody know the point behind this? What little I’ve gathered is lacking in a rather big way. Any information would be appreciated and…

[he trails off into an uncomfortable pause. He’s got a feeling he’ll end up screwing himself over with this but there’s not much he can do about it]

I suppose…. I can offer some sort of help in return. Not sure how effective I’ll be but

[ he gives a non-committal shrug]

Also, out of curiosity….how do you people feel about necromancy?

Prose Log Sample:
“I have an offer you might be interested in.”

“Not interested.”

“You haven’t even heard what I have to say!”

Lance rolled his eyes and turned his head to stare at his cousin. He’d spent that last twenty minutes staring at the wall of the sorry excuse of a box the elves seemed to think was a cell, ignoring Illuri’s youngest princess in the vain hope that she would leave him alone. She’d been visiting him regularly for the last week with the same offer of some mysterious something and the occasional questions about himself. She was certainly persistent, he’d give her that.

She was sitting against the far wall across from the door to his cell, glaring back at him, waiting for a response. When none was forthcoming she sighed.

“What if I told you I could get you out of there?”

He raised an eyebrow and blinked at her, “Then I would think you were lying.”

“Just listen for a minute, would you? If you do what I want, I’ll let you out, give you back your silver, and you don’t get hanged. We both get something out of it.”

Lance stared at her. If she was going to share, she would. He couldn’t exactly leave if he didn’t want to listen and if she did decide to leave him alone, she’d probably be back the next day anyway.

“What, then?”

“Huh?”

“What is it you want?”

“I want you to kidnap me,” she said, smiling triumphantly.

Lance sat up straight and turned all the way to look at her as if that would help him understand what she was saying any better.

“That makes no sense.”

“Yes it does,” she said, her smile broadening, “I want to see places that aren’t this city and, you happen to be in a situation where you don’t have many options open to you. If you agree, I let you out tonight and we can be on our way.”

She had a point. He was to be hanged soon and so far, there hadn’t been an opportunity to get his silver back or pick the lock on the door nor did it look like there would be a chance for either anytime soon. As crazy as her plan sounded, and oh, was it crazy, it was the only thing he had. The more he thought about it, the less he had to lose if he agreed. Still didn’t change the fact that it was stupid.

“Fine.”
